“To date we have hosted guests from Europe to South Africa, Canada, USA, South America and many other parts of the globe and of course New Zealand. We can boast a 9.4 out of 10 rating with Booking.com and are also ‘Superhosts’ with AirBnB.“

—Rainer Plank, Founder

In the 1960’s and in my preschool years we would travel from Auckland and spend a day at Orewa beach playing in the surf and sand. At that age a half metre wave was huge! Those memories of my childhood are cemented with me forever and I always dreamed of one day buying a property in Orewa.

That opportunity came in 2012 with the purchase of 15 Moana Avenue. The property was run down. It contained an old dilapidated bungalow at the front, overgrown garden full of weeds and a broken-down garage with rubble at the back.

During that time Auckland City was also in the process of finalising the “new” unitary city plan which took a few years to complete.

First thoughts were for an apartment complex including commercial tenancy however that went out the door with construction prices accelerating! Three resource consents later – the idea of affordable individual cabins for travellers and tourists began to take hold.  Air-BnB had come into its own and gave rise to the idea of creating a holiday haven for short-term visitors.

Orewa Kiwi Cabins was formed out of a “tiny home solution” for holiday makers and tourists.  The locale is so central and perfectly situated near restaurants, supermarkets, medical facilities, a public library, shops and a pub – all within the same street!

To give it the uniquely Kiwi slant, each cabin has been named after a native bird of New Zealand with flora and fauna features to each of the cabins; Tui, Kea, Kiwi, Kingfisher, Fantail, and now the Pukeko House.

To date we have hosted guests from Europe to South Africa, Canada, USA, South America  and many other parts of the globe and of course New Zealand.  We can boast a 9.4 out of 10 rating with Booking.com and are also ‘Superhosts’ with AirBnB.

Orewa Kiwi Cabins is owned and managed by Rainer and Deborah – a married team of 30 years and counting!  We have three children who have helped with the upgrading the front house, cleaning and critique of this unique haven in the heart of Orewa. Rachel – our daughter who is a senior Graphic Designer in Melbourne has created this website of which we are very proud.

We hope you enjoy your stay at Orewa Kiwi Cabins in its fabulous holiday location.
